Yosemite National Park: The Land; The Legend; The Lifestyle… Feb 28

Have you ever heard the roaring waters of Yosemite Falls during the peak runoff season?

Have you ever watched the sun rise across Half Dome’s curved facade?

Have you ever seen the sun set across the sheer granite rock face known as El Capitan?

Would you like to?

Well, now is the time to make that long-awaited journey to the legendary Yosemite National Park.  Located right in the middle of California, Yosemite is easily accessible by land and by air.  Once you make up your mind that it’s about time you visit this well-known national park, it’s time to start planning your trip.  But before you make your airline reservations, the first thing you’ll need to do is a little research on the hotels in Yosemite National Park.

Many splendid hotels and accommodation options are available throughout many different areas of Yosemite Park, including the Main Valley Floor,  the Wowona Valley, the Hetch Hetcy area, Tuolumne Meadows and others.  The first thing you’ll need to do is figure out which entrance you’ll be using.  There are three main entrances that can be used to access the park year-round: Highway 120 West, Highway 140 West, and Highway 41 South.

A large majority of Yosemite’s 3.5 million yearly visitors tend to focus their vacation on the most popular area of the park, which is the area roughly seven miles long and one mile in diameter which makes up the Yosemite Valley.  As a result, Highway 41 and Highway 140 tend to be the most popular and most traveled enterances into the park.

The lodging options inside Yosemite Park come in many different shapes, sizes, and price ranges and offer an equally divers range of features and accommodations.  The hotels in Yosemite National Park include:  Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, Curry Village, The Ahwahnee Hotel, Housekeeping Camp, and the Wawona Hotel.  These are all wonderful lodging properties which provide a great opportunity to stay inside the park and experience all it has to offer.  Be prepared to plan ahead, because the majority of these hotels in Yosemite National Park are reserved one year in advance. But hotels lodges and campgrounds are not your only options for staying inside the park, there are also several vacation home properties available inside Yosemite. Properties like Redwoods Vacation Homes and Yosemite Four Seasons Vacation Rentals are very popular amongst Yosemite' vacationers.

Choosing comfortable and affordable lodging is only the begining of your adventure in Yosemite Park however… the real fun begins after the bags have been put away, the hiking boots have been put on and and the Yosemite wilderness has become your home.

Yosemite is full of opportunity! Explore Yosemite by hiking or biking. Spend some time with a park ranger learning about Yosemite or get a broad overview by taking a bus tour.

Yosemite Park offers guests endless activities and adventure… what is your idea of fun and adventure?

Rock climbing El Capitan one of the most impressive granite walls in the northern hemisphere?…

Backpacking through high Sierra bliss and oogling at some of the most breathtaking panoramas in North America?…

Auto-touring the park in a 1930’s Model-T Ford?

Skiing down a mountain on a Sierra-mist of flufffy powder?

Or perhaps taking a cool dip in a hidden wilderness lagoon on a hot summer afternoon, and staring up at some of the worlds most recognizable monoliths.

Whatever your pleasure, Yosemite National Park is the place to fulfill your wanderlust for Americas wilderness beauty and andventure.

Many people don’t realize the diversity of activities available within Yosemite Park and in the communities surrounding.

For example Yosemite is the only National Park I know of that has a golf course within it's borders.  The Wawona golf course is a testament to beauty and recreation set amidst the towering pines and jaw dropping peaks of one of Americas most beloved national parks.

Many other family-fun activities exist such as whitewater rafting, hoseback riding, fishing, water skiing, snow skiing and more.

Yosemite National Park is just one of the places I have visited recently during my “product testing” for one of the most impressive vacation club memberships I have ever seen, the Resorts 360 Vacation Club.  Yes… I actually get paid to vacation to amazing destinations all over the world, live like a celebrity while I am there, and then brag about it to my friends afterwards… everytime I do this, my income increases!  Want to join me in this dream lifestyle?  Get more details by visiting Resorts-360.com

Drunk Passengers Danger to All Feb 28

Last week I flew back to Glasgow airport from a short business trip to Frankfurt with a colleague.

On my return flight to Glasgow from Frankfurt last week I had first hand experience of a disturbingly drunk and unpleasant passenger.

We had just taken off from Frankfurt airport when a man who was seated about three rows in front of myself and my colleague left his seat and lurched drunkenly towards the lavatories. This was before the ‘fasten seatbelts’ light had been extinguished so the vigilant flight attendants immediately told him that he needed to return to his seat.

He wasn’t in the mood to be co-operative, clearly already seriously inebriated he became argumentative and aggressive with the tolerant flight attendants. Eventually he sat back down but as soon as he could he was ordering more booze.

No more than 10 minutes into the flight our belligerent European co-passenger was on his feet again, this time trying to make friends with some of his fellow passengers, none of whom wanted to engage in conversation with him. Several times during the flight he leaned over and patted the busy flight attendants on the backside. They were very clear in their warnings about his behaviour but he persisted in annoying fellow passengers until we landed at Glasgow.

There have been a number of high profile reports of disturbing incidents in which drunk passengers have put the lives of themselves their fellow passengers and crew at risk. In one such incident a drunk passenger threatened to open the aircraft’s emergency door while they were at 30,000 feet. This resulted in the passenger being given a jail sentence.

In another recent incident a drunk woman, on a plane flying to Tenerife, hurled abuse at the flight attendants. She was handed a two month jail sentence for her unacceptable drunken behaviour.

Worrying incidents like these raise the question, ‘Is it ever acceptable to serve alcohol on aircraft?’

To save money on Glasgow airport parking I always go online and book in advance with Gosimply.com.

Travel Lodge Advice Feb 27

Booking travel tickets and hotel rooms remains the first thing on the to-do-list when planning a trip. If you haven’t made arrangements in advance, the search for a good travel lodge before the vacation period is exhausting. Tourism agents advertise extensively to sell their vacation packages, but the customer also needs to know what he or she expects for a holiday. Consider the next tips when in search of a quiet inexpensive travel lodge, and and ask yourself these questions for a good start.

Are you planning a vacation on or off peak seasons? Are you tight to a fix date for the holiday? How much can you afford to spend on a travel lodge? How many people are going on the trip with you? Plenty of hostels, hotels, apartments and condos are suitable as travel lodge accommodation with different levels of comfort, starting with basic standard amenities and finishing with five star services. From travel lodge to travel lodge you’ll see that the rates differ, not to mention that far in advance booking contributes to getting a really fair discount. Thus, if you are so sure of the next-holiday plans, you can book rooms even a year in advance, since the hotel policy allows such flexible forms of reservation.

Internet portals facilitate the finding of a travel lodge considerably, as many of them include travel-related functions. Without the technologies we have access to at present, it could prove impossible to rent a nice affordable travel lodge quickly. So far we have talked about holiday makers who require convenient accommodation, but there are very business people who have jobs that involve a lot of traveling, and they too enjoy the use of travel-related web sites. Some companies make their deals through rental contracts for a travel lodge in order to offer the commuting employees the chance to work in convenient conditions.

The booking of such a travel lodge is made only after a negotiation of the contract, particularly if the company requires the use of the travel lodge for an indefinite period of time. People in search of a travel lodge, who do not have the back covered by  a corporation, should carefully look over several quotes before making up their mind, and fortunately web sites do support comprehensive research making. As for the market tendencies, it is interesting to point out that there has been a modification in the traveler’s preferences for cottages, when traveling to Europe and Great Britain in particular.

A Typical Catalan Meal in Barcelona Feb 27

Como comer un calçot

Are you looking for a weekend break to the Catalan capital this summer? There are many hotels Barcelona for you to rent, but be warned, there’s a lot of food you need to try when you get there… At the top of my list is fideua. This fantastic dish consists of noodle like food, which are shorter and straighter than the type of noodles we’re used to and come with a healthy serving of alioli sauce, which is made from garlic cloves, olive oil and eggs, with the same consistency of mayonnaise.

After you’ve tried this traditional starter, move onto calçolts. These delicious Calçots are milder and less bulbous than onions and have a length of between 15/25 cm (white part)

Calçots are then vine roasted and dipped in salvitxada sauce or romesco, and accompanied by red wine or cava. The charcoal is used to roast strips of bread and meat after cooking the calçots.

Being from the UK, in general we like our meat and two vege. Next, move onto a selection of “botifarra amb mongetes”, that is bound to fill you up. This dish offers a large helping of sausage with white beans and is truly one of the dishes at the heart of catalan cuisine.

The Crema Catalana is the perfect way to end the meal for dessert. Honestly the most Catalan dessert on the menu, it is made from a delicious concoction. The custard is made with milk or cream, egg yolks and flour. Sugar, lemon, orange zest and cinnamon give extra flavor to the custard. It is crème brûlée-like, with caramelized sugar on the top and if you order it, you’re bound for a treat.

Finally, after filling yourself up with delicious catalan cava and lambrusco (pink sparkling wine), why not wander back through the streets of Barcelona in the warm summer air until you get to your Barcelona hotels. Stop off at one of the shops to buy another bottle of lambrusco, to carry on the catalan experience at home.

Experience New York City Tourism such as the Double Decker Bus Tour Feb 27

Check out New York City Attractions - New York, New York. When you decide that you are ready to venture into the city of New York to discover the secrets and wonders of city life then you have to enjoy a New York City Tour.  You will want to take it on a helicopter where you will observe the birds’ eye view of the city sights, or perhaps you want to take a Double Decker bus tour from which you will be able to see the city from street level without the risk of getting lost.  It will help your decision about which places you want to go back to and take more time exploring.

There are a variety of New York Attractions for you to experience.  You might even desired to take a tour riding on the ships of the River tours where you see the city sights from the rivers that encompas the city.  Here you will get a totally different perspective of the size and placement of the boroughs of the city and how the bridges connect everything together.

When you are flying over the city New York Helicopter Touryou will see the diversity of the development on this incredibly small area of land.  The billions of people that live here and those that come to visit make for a true quilt work of varying cultures, values and ideals.  It is believed that every region of the world has some representation in this city.

Humble yourself at the site of the Twin Towers and see the destruction left by the crazy people that choose to kill thousands to get seen by the media and the rest of the world.  Those brave people that drove ahead into the devastation to save anyone they could and to give aide and comfort to the injured in the blast.  The towers are gone but the spirit of the survivors and those that lost their lives will live on for years to come.  Just the opposite experience of what the terrorists hoped to accomplish.

While you ride the Double Decker tour bus you will drive past Wall Street and realize that the countless billions of investment dollars that have been invested in the financial market run through this relatively small area.  The buildings with their emblems of power are an exciting site to experience.  The bus tour will give you that chance without you having to walk down the street and cock your head way back to see them.

If you choose to take the riverboat tour you will get a beautiful view of the Statue of Liberty and of Ellis Island.  The heritage of these famous symbols is almost an overwhelming emotion as you look up on the beauty and think of how the immigrants had to feel when they first laid eyes on their new homeland.  How afraid of the unknown they must have been, how grateful for the chance to start a new life in a new country and yet how challenged they had to be with the process of getting admitted into the United States through the gates of Ellis Island.  Emotions will run high during this part of the trip, but you will certainly be glad you had the chance to experience these symbols up close.

Brittany’s Music and Dancing Tradition Feb 27

Brittany has a vigorous history of popular dancing. The Breton music and its associated Danses Plin, Rondes, Derobes, “Scottishes”, Gavottes and so on are much played and enjoyed by all ages. If you come to Brittany on holidays – maybe staying in one of those traditional gites or longeres (=terraced farm buildings) – you will become aware that there are a lot of local events involving music We have (and let Brittany holiday gites in the Vilaine Valley, near La Roche Bernard ) and many of our visitors soak up the musical tradition.

Not only French residents, we are now also totally addicted. to the folklorique heritage. In my case to an instrument called the bombarde, and my wife to les danses Bretonnes.

Certainly Breton dancing and Brittany’s old culture has revived in recent years, but there was always a very strong base. Up to a very few years ago (and perhaps it still goes on) people were collecting folk music, along the lines of Cecil Sharp in England.

Fest Noz

In the summer there are so many festivals that they could on by themselves form the basis of your holiday in Brittany. July and August (= the French holiday season) has a fest noz (=evening feast) for every day of the week. These are fest noz are mostly for the locals, but people from elsewhere are also made to feel very welcome. You will be well fed at low cost (moules marinieres, beouf gros sel, etc.) along low tables and benches. The music and welcoming atmosphere are great.

Fest deizh

More rarely there are fest deizh (=daytime feasts) which happen in the afternoon and which are often held as “stages” (=training sessions) for would-be Breton dancers. Many people will go to these, and there is often fine singing. Most of the dances have accompanying songs in fact, though the tunes and steps seem to be better remembered than the words.

Noces Bretonnes

Finally there are “noces Bretonnes” (=Brittany weddings) which are re-enactments of aan old fashioned wedding. These can be quite grand: we paid 30 euros each for one such occasion in Augan, Morbihan. It seemed a bit steep, but the meal lasted 4 hours, comprised seven courses, and was served with beer, wine, champagne, cider, and a little bit of Calvados – tout compris. A wonderful day.

The instruments

The music is based on simple band lineups – from a selection of

  • bombardes – a piercingly loud reed instrument, same length and pitch as a penny whistle.
  • Biniou/ cornemuses – the bagpipes that Breton men play
  • accordions
  • flutes
  • clarinets
  • saxophone
  • violin

There will be 3 – 4 players at any one time. The music can be “muddy” and indistinct if dominated by accordions, but its lightened by the other instruments which carry the melody line much better. Its always strongly rhythmic and danceable.

The Dances

The dances were very chaste in the old times. A whole village would dance in rondes where everyone links to everybody else via their little fingers – no other bodily contact. There are many others, including “pile menu” which were danced to beat flat the earth floor of your house – try to imagine that as a dating opportunity. Fortunately for young lovers Brittany has been able to import racier and rather daring dances such as gavottes, and polka – from abroad – and adapt them to local ways of doing things. But these are just some of the Breton traditions that enliven a Brittany Holiday. Just take a look at the previous link for news about the local Calvados !

Help and advice on purchasing a new timeshare Feb 27

If you are thinking about buying a timeshare, there are a lot of different things you should look into before making any decision. It could be that you want to buy a peppertree timeshare or even a used Disney timeshare. You want to make sure you know all of the different options for the types of timeshares so that if you decide to Buy Timeshares you make the best decision for you.

One of the factors you need to consider before you Buy Timeshares is how often you would want to be able to use the timeshare. Most timeshares allow you to use the property for one week out of each year, but there are also options that allow you to use it every other year or even less often. You can also get the option to use the property more often so that you can go for either a longer time period or for multiple one week trips.

You also want to make sure that you get the type of time allocation that you would like, either fixed week, floating week, or flex week. That way you either get guaranteed a certain week either year, or you get to choose a week either any time during the year or any time during a particular season of the year.

With more people wishing to own a timeshare duing the summer months of June, July and August you are likely to pay more for a fix time share over that period. These slots are often peak summer months i.e. June, July and August and also Christmas time.

If you buy a floating week then you enter into either an automated rotation or a nomination system. This rotation system works on the basis that each year you are allocated a week, this week automatically changes each year until you cycle through all the slots. The nomination system means that you take it in turns be first to choose your date or dates. For example one year you might get first choice of dates, then the next year you’ll be last to choose, which won’t really be much of choice. Then the following year you might be 10th to choose and so on. Different people enjoy different types.

Second hand timeshares are one option you might not have considered. There can be some great 2nd hand rci time share bargins to be had, even more so considering today’s economic climate.

When and if you reach the point where you say to yourself “I now want to sell my timeshare” then that’s another subject in itself. One thing is for sure, you’ll want to get a quick sale at the best price possible without any hassel. My advice to you would be to do some research, make some calls, and check online to be sure you are chosing a broker that will give you the best deal.

Games For Backpackers Feb 27

What are the best games for backpackers? Apart from being ones that you will actually enjoy, they need to be lightweight and easy to carry. Here are some suggestions, some for games that don’t even need to be carried anywhere but in your head.

Chess - Years ago I took a white handkerchief and used a ruler and pen to draw lines on it, making an eight-by-eight grid of squares. I darkened in the appropriate ones with a permanent marker to create a chess board. Then I bought $3 chess set, threw out the board, and put the lightweight chessmen in a small plastic bag with my folded up cloth board. I have taken this 3-ounce game with me to other countries and on many backpacking trips over the years.

Card Games - A deck of cards weighs just a few ounces. You can even get a miniature deck if you want to really cut that weight. When it comes to lightweight games for backpackers, this is a great idea, because there are perhaps a hundred different ones which can be played with one deck of cards. You probably already know a few, including games like solitaire that don’t require another player.

Mancala - If you have never played this one, you can look up the simple rules online. The game usually consists of a wooden board with six depressions carved out on each side, and a larger “bank” on either end, plus 24 glass beads per side. There are no boards I have seen that are small enough for backpacking, but once you know the game, it can be played on the shore of a sandy lake or stream by digging two rows of six holes and putting four pebbles or pine cones in each.

Tic-Tac-Toe - This classic can be played on any piece of paper if you have some with you. Alternately, you can scratch out a tic-tac-toe board in the dirt, or make one with four straight sticks. If you don’t want to scratch your x’s and o’s in the ground, you can just use five each of two different objects, like pebbles and pine cones.

Survival Games - There are many “survival games” that you can play without needing to carry anything. If the members of your group know a few wild edible plants, for example, you can challenge each other to spot the first wild raspberry or cattail plant as you hike. On winding trails you can each guess what your heading is before checking the compass, to see who is closer.

When in camp for the night, you can play mental games like creating a survival scenario and trying to think of the best way to get out safely. You can pick an item like a pine cone or a trekking pole and then see who can think of the most ways to use it in a survival situation. Of all the games for backpackers, these are some of my favorites, because they are fun and they hone your skills and knowledge.

What You Need To Know About Skiing Vacation Feb 27

What is your plan for this winter vacation? It’s almost near and by now you should already have a carefully laid out plan so that you can enjoy your vacation to the fullest. If you’re looking for excitement, nothing is more fun than taking a skiing vacation with your family, your loved one, or even your friends.

Feel the cold air as it slices over your cheeks while you slide down the slopes of the mountainsides. After that, you can enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee in your hotel or apartment. Some women also love ski vacations because of the handsome and cute instructors. But wait, before you even rush out of your house, you should know what to take with you in your suitcase.

Careful planning is needed before you finally decide to pack your things for vacation. First and foremost, you have to make the necessary reservations. There are various ski resorts packages offered and you can choose among them. You have to ensure that you choose a vacation package that you can afford so as not to exhaust all your savings. Once you’re through with the reservations, you have to call the hotel or the resort and inquire about the place where you’re going to stay. That way, you will know if you will bring you toiletries and towels with you. Luxurious hotels usually provide for these things and so there is no need to bring any with you when you travel.

Some ski resorts offer individual cabins. You have to know if your cabin is a bit far from the main hotel or lodge. That way, you can bring extra coats aside from your ski suits. If you’re staying at the main hotel, you can still bring an extra coat with you; just in case you want to take a walk outside.

What things of attraction they have that you can find in the resorts? You have to know these things so that you can also prepare some of your personal stuff. For example, the resort may offer hot tubs, special events or parties, boxing or yoga lessons, etc. You must bring attire or clothing that best suits in this condition, if you have interest in these types of activities.

For those individuals who are taking vitamins or prescription medications, it would be best to take some with you but bring only the exact medicines needed.

First time ski vacationers should bring their favorite mug or pillow just in case they get homesick. Many vacationers feel this way and personal things you bring can give you comfort.

One of the most important considerations is food. Does the main hotel have restaurants? Are the foods affordable? What kinds of cuisines are offered? Can you have easily few snacks when you feel hungry? Does your cabin have a personal kitchen? To get a satisfactory answer of these questions is important in order to prepare an estimate for your food budget.

If you have other questions in your mind, don’t hesitate to call the resort. They have customer representatives who are willing to answer all your queries. If you prepared for everything, nothing can ruin your skiing vacation. So what are waiting for? Pack your things now and spend a memorable vacation at the ski resort.

This winter season may be the best vacation that you can have because you’re prepared for everything.
