How Much Can You Afford To Spend For Your Last Minute Summer Trip? Feb 23

Summer is getting away, but you’re determined not to let spring come without first enjoying yourself under the sun. No matter how last minute your travel plans are, the tips below can guarantee that you’ll have a summer vacation to remember!

Budget
Start your travel plans by eliminating your most pressing worry and one that has the greatest impact on your plans. How much can you afford to spend for your last summer trip?

Beware that since you’re planning at the last minute, discounts and other incentives travelers are usually entitled to won’t be available to you. You may have to pay more and tolerate less than 5-star accommodations because you haven’t made any advanced reservations.

To save on money, you should look for a destination that offers you lots of free attractions and activities to visit and do. If you are amenable to working with a travel agency, having them prepare all your travel plans could give you cheaper rates for a bundled package.

Choosing a Destination
Let’s be realistic. If you pick on the usual summer favorites like Hawaii, Florida, or California, you need to be prepared to jostle with the crowds every second of the day. Accommodations would also be difficult to obtain and even finding a good and affordable place to eat could also be a challenge.

Why not be adventurous for a change? Consider looking into secret or little-known summer getaways. Winter retreats like Colorado and Boston may seem like unlikely places to visit during the summer but with a little research, you’ll be surprised at the hidden gems of attractions they have to offer.

Another thing you should consider is what you can do when you finally get to your destination. It’s best to look for a destination which can immediately offer you activities you’re interested in. If you’re a nature lover, for instance, you might be hard-pressed to find challenging nature walks in the city jungle of New York. Likewise, urban travelers might be intimidated by the rugged outdoors found in Montana or the swampy beauty of Louisiana.

Choosing Your Mode of Transportation
Determining how you travel can also make a huge difference with your plans.

If you’re greatly worried about time constraints and you’d like to make the most out of the last days of summer vacation, traveling by plane is the best option. It is also one of the more expensive options however you can save a decent amount if you stay away from the first class or business section.

For those with adventurous spirits, traveling by car or using a rented RV is something you should consider. Traveling hours are generally longer, but you also get the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery along side, meet new friends while going on a similar route, and discover new places of interest as you go towards your destination. Make sure, however, you take all the safety precautions when traveling.

For a more leisurely and luxurious way of traveling, consider traveling by train or by taking a cruise to reach your destination.

Packing
Make a list. Yes, you’re intelligent, you’ve a great memory, and you’re organized but if you want to be sure about packing everything you need, make a list. Making one won’t hurt. Find out weather conditions in your destination to ensure you bring appropriate clothing. Lastly, make sure you’ve got stuff for sun protection with you in your hand-carry bag.

Enjoy the last days of summer season!

The Vacation of a Lifetime: Brainstorming the Itinerary For Your Next Vacation Feb 23

Some people deicide in an instant exactly where they want to visit on their upcoming vacation, what they want to see, and what they want to do once they get there.  For others, planning the ultimate vacation is a labor of careful planning, research, and pursuing new discoveries.

Many people start out with a basic idea of what it is that they would like to do or see during their upcoming vacation time, but they often are unsure of exactly which destinations will provide them with the best, most exciting and most fulfilling experience at the most economical price.

Today I am going to provide some general advice especially for those of you who might be a bit undecided on where to plan your next vacation…advice on how to brainstorm the perfect itinerary for your ultimate vacation, including where to go, what to do, how to get there and how to stay there for the absolute best prices available.

Years ago, this sort of topic is one that you would have taken to your travel agent for their advice on where you should go, where you should stay and what you should do. But it is a different world these days.  Today travel is a micro-customizable experience that can be easily planned and executed down to the finest detail, there is no need to seek out help from any professional travel agents, theres really no need to even leave your lazy boy.

Today your travel plans can be as diverse and adventurous as you can wrap your mind around… think backpacking through Tibet… camping out in the Serengeti… perhaps hiking through the rainforests of South America.  Your vacation itinerary is limited only by your imagination, and today I am going to teach you how to fill your imagination with so many exciting ideas, you might not be able to sleep for a while.

In today’s information saturated world, you literally have access to unlimited resources of information at the click of a mouse. With very little time or hassle, you can search out all the information you will ever need to know about any resort, activity, adventure or destination anywhere on earth, without barely lifting a finger.

Even if you currently have no hint of an idea what you would even like to do with your holiday time, I guarantee by the time your finished implementing the strategies from within this article, you will have all kinds of ideas floating through your head.

One great place to look for vacation ideas is in newspapers and magazines.  There are many newspapers and magazines on the market that cover all sorts of travel related topics.  These are a great way to discover new places that you might not have considered or even knew existed.  Or if you do already have an idea of where you’d like to visit, but you have no idea where to stay or what to do when you get there, the travel guides and articles that you will find in the newspapers and magazines at your nearest supermarket might have just the information you are looking for to plan yourperfect vacation itinerary.

Here are a couple of the best options for researching vacation destinations and activities all around the globe:

•    Budget Travel (http://budgetravelonline.com)
•    Conde Nast Traveler (http://cntraveler.com)
•    National Geographic Traveler (http://nationaleographic,com/traveler)

And Newspapers:

•    Boston Globe (http://boston.com/travel)
•    Los Angeles Times (http://latimes.com)
•    USA Today (http://usatoday.com/travel)
•    Washington Post (http://washingtonpost.com/travel)

Keep in mind also that many of these publication offer online access to archived issues from the past several years.  This can be a great way to narrow down your search to a certain destination and area, or to gather even more wide ranging information on destinations and activities that you had not even considered before.

Travel books too can be great way to research vacation ideas and brainstorm new vacation options. Books such as “1000 Places to See Before You Die” by Patricia Schultz or “The Travel Book” put out by the people at Lonely Planet can be a great way to get ideas on new and interesting places from around the world that you probably have never thought of.  Of course if you do have a place in mind already, and you are looking for a little helpful guidance on what to do once you get there, there are hundreds of guidebooks available at most popular bookstores today that focus on lodging, services, activities, and travel advice for specific destinations around the world.  Chances are good that a guidebook already exists for whatever destination that you have in mind.  Another fantastic way to research some of the destinations that you might already have in mind is to simply type your destination-specific search into Google, or to use the travel portal at Yahoo!

Last but not least, one of the best sources for information on where to go for your next vacation is word of mouth recommendations from other satisfied vacationers who have already experienced a place for themselves.  Neighbors, co-workers, relatives, Facebook buddies, the lady at the dry cleaners, they all have probably been on vacation someplace in recent years, and if they had a good time while they were on vacation, then chances are their face is going to light up and they are going to ‘come alive’ with enthusiasm when you ask them if they have any vacation destination recommendations.   Not only is this a good way to learn about some fantastic new places around the world to vacation, but it is also a great way to strike up a conversation with someone, learn about their personal interests, and make a new friend.

Once you have decided on a destination that seems to fit you and all that you consider to be “the perfect vacation” then allow me to show you how to make that dream vacation a reality in your life, by saving you 50% to 80% on your travel and vacation plans.  I am a vacation consultant working with Resorts 360 and my job is to travel around the world on vacation, evaluate the finest resort destinations that the world has to offer, and then share my experiences with others, and teach them how they can do the same using the Resorts 360 Vacation Club at savings of up to 80% off the normal rates.  If you would like more information on who I am and what I do, visit www.Resorts-360.com

Getting Through a Lion Attack Feb 23

Lions rarely attack humans. Most of the noted attacks have only been as a result of aggravation or starvation. Attacks do happen however, and those who are unprepared rarely come off well. This guide documents the best practices to avoid lion attack and have incident free safaris

Always make sure you are aware of your surroundings. It is very difficult to know if you are encroaching on a lion’s territory but there are usually lion prides close to safari holidays resorts and lions can sometimes have very large territories so it’s a safe bet to assume you are.

It is a lot safer to be among tree rather than out in the plains as lions do not like hunting were there is think undergrowth or obstacles that they risk injuring themselves on. For this reason you should try to stick to areas of high plant growth and only venture a short distance from decent cover. Another advanatge is that you should try to stay close to the trees as lions are very poor climbers and probably would not bother following you.

If you spot lion in the wild do not approach under any circumstances. If the lions are not aware you are then then you should quickly move in a different direction. You should not start to run if you see a lion as you will end up making noise and alerting the lion you are there.

If the lion is aware of you presence you should still move in the opposite direction but walk slowly backwards keeping your eyes on the lion. It is well worth knowing that if lions are female so there is a very high chance that there will be others around as they hunt in groups. If the lion follows you then up your pace, trying to keep an equal distance from it.

Hence, tell the agency that you are looking for honeymoon travel opportunities, and you may strike a better deal. Sometimes people go for the all inclusive variant and leave it to the agency to deal with everything from then transportation details to the hotel reservations, while other couples prefer to get involved actively in the planning.

A trip to a warmer place still requires smart packing, and that’s another honeymoon travel tip that you should not ignore. This is not about taking sweaters and jackets when going to Hawaii, but rather about choosing to have some extra apparel items available for all sorts of events, as you may feel the need to wear something other than very casual beach clothes. Don’t forget to take some water, a few snacks and the essentials necessary for the trip. By essentials we imply the passports, the credit cards, a list of useful phone numbers and so on.

How To Get The Best Orlando Vacation Package Feb 23

When it comes time to put together an Orlando vacation package, you’ll find out one of the great things about the place right at the beginning: there’s an enormous amount of choice, whether it’s related to the way you travel, the place you stay or the things to do there.

And one of the really important things to sort out: how you’re going to work through that enormous amount of choice!

Let me explain.  Orlando has:

1. Two main airports (Orlando International Airport plus Sanford) and if that’s not enough, there are convenient places to fly into in surrounding cities (Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona, and even Jacksonville is a couple of hours drive away).

2. Good road access.  If you don’t want to fly or if you find driving a less expensive but practical option, you have Interstate 95, I75 and/or I4.  Orlando is practical as far as the driving option is concerned from much of the USA.  Canadians even make the journey from places as far away as Toronto.

3. More than 27000 hotel or motel rooms (and that’s not counting the thousands of short term rental homes available to Central Florida visitors.  Short term rental homes are individually owned single family homes or condos that are licensed by Florida State and are rented out by their independent owners for days or a few weeks at a time.).  Hotel and motel standards vary widely, from the high class and exotic down to the cheap and (hopefully) cheerful, so there’s something to match every budget.

4. Too many attractions to do justice to in one visit.  Surely everyone has heard of Disney World (you need a week to see all of that, and even then you’ll have no rest in between energy-sapping days of effort) and most people are familiar with Universal and Sea World.  But what about Busch Gardens, just down the road to Tampa.  Is Discovery Cove an essential visit?  Can you miss out on a Kennedy Space Center tour?  And the beaches - St Petersburg, Clearwater, Daytona?  How about Wet & Wild, shopping at the Millenia Mall and the almost countless restaurants to sample?

5. Nature on it’s doorstep: the Everglades is an hour or two to the south of Orlando.  The Gulf of Mexico is less than a couple of hours to the West and the Atlantic Ocean is about an hour to the East, both with excellent snorkeling, scuba diving and boating opportunities.

And that’s just a start.  There are many other places to go and enjoy, varying from state parks such as Lake Louisa to “eccentricities” like Gatorland, all the way through to calm and beautiful places like Bok Tower.

You’ll also need to think about the climate.  Seasons are variable so what suits your family’s needs the most?  Florida is a great place to be all of the year round but is a lot hotter in some seasons than others.  Summer is the hottest and wettest time when you can almost guarantee a cloud burst some time during each day.  It’s also very humid for long spells and you need access to air conditioning.  At least the rain is still warm rain, though!

October through to April are the driest months of the year and in particular, December, January and February are the coolest.  Believe it or not, some nights are frosty (for example, at the time of writing this in February 2009 we have experienced more than one night with below-freezing temperatures in Central Florida).

Useful Tips for Last Minute Airplane Fares Feb 23

discount airfare

Depending on where you need to travel to and when you need to get there, getting a good price for last minute airplane fares can sometimes be a difficult task. In fact, there are even certain times of the year when it can be almost impossible to get the flight that gets you where you need to go no matter what price you are prepared to pay. This is one reason why travel industry insiders often suggest that you book early and don’t wait until the eleventh hour to try to find good flight deals.

In most cases, booking your air tickets as far in advance of your trip as possible is usually the best way to go for cheap airline tickets to your destination. When you secure your air tickets early, while there are still plenty of seats available, you will find that the airlines usually offer the cheapest airfares during this stage.

Waiting to book a flight until the last minute often means that there are very few seats left. When this happens, the airlines may charge a premium price for those seats that are left, especially during busy travel times.

But, even with that fact in mind, it should be understood that there are always special circumstances that arise that will get you a significant discount on airplane fares, even for those last minute flights. In order to be able to take advantage of these super deals, you will need to be able to make a snap decision and get to the airport very quickly.

One thing that is essential in obtaining great deals on those last minute flights is your ability to be flexible in your travel plans. If you want to save a lot of money on your tickets, then you must be flexible about the date and time of the flight, about the airline, about which airport you fly in and out of, and about how many stops you are willing to make en route to your destination. If you are willing to be inconvenienced by early morning or late night flights or by having a layover or having to change planes, then you will probably be able to enjoy the cheapest airfares even if you had to make your arrangements at the last minute.

When the airlines want to fill all of the seats on a plane quickly, they will drop their prices and will usually post these discount airfare prices on their website. These days, many airlines will offer these airfare deals only on their website, so it is important to monitor the website of the carrier you are considering.

Some airlines will send email alerts about reduced prices to frequent flyer program members or to others who have signed up for such notifications. Signing up for these alerts can give you an advantage and can save you the trouble of logging on many times a day when you are in need of finding the cheapest airfares.

In almost all cases of heavily discounted air tickets, there are greater restrictions on the tickets. It is important to be sure to read all of the fine print and the terms of discounted prices. Most discounted tickets are issued as non-refundable and non-transferable and can only be changed by paying a fee, which could outweigh the savings if a situation arises and you have to change the date of your flight. Many of these discount fares also have other limitations, such as requiring a stay over a weekend.

Typically, the special internet discounts on airplane fares are posted mid-week by the airlines for flights that will be leaving the following weekend. If you are trying to schedule your travel strictly around cheap airline tickets for last minute flights, then you will need to continually be checking in for changes to the fares. You should also be sure your bags are packed and you are ready to go, so that you can reap the benefits when just the right special fare comes along.

Looking For Hotels At Local Websites Feb 23

Traveling at the last minute can be nerve-wracking, for whatever reason, be it intentionally or just unfortunate turn of events. That is, if you come with an unprepared mindset. Since traveling unprepared can sometimes give you trouble regarding hotel bookings, here are tips on how you could land a place to stay even if you’re making travel plans at the last minute:

Look for hotels at local websites.
Websites offering tips and last minute booking deals abound but not many of them can be very helpful if you’re trying to actually get accommodated. In spite of using such websites that cater to a national even the international gathering, think using websites that are local. These sites oven offer better (read: better) listings of hotels if you’re traveling last minute. Global sites are often simply too expansive to actually give you the good deals.

Use multiple sites.
It’s rare to find last minute hotel bookings that offer reasonable prices in only one site. Use several different sites so you can compare. You might even come across really great deals – terrific if you’re traveling on a budget.

Prefer looking up a local travel agent.
Don’t rely too much on your trusty travel agent. Even they sometimes don’t get to help in terms of last minutehotel bookings during your travels. Instead, look up travel agencies in the locality where you’re traveling to. You could probably find them online, at tourism websites or online yellow pages.

These local travel agencies have a better access on the actual availability of hotel rooms in their area. They should – they’re located there. Call them up or send an e-mail to inquire.

Ask the local tourism office.
If you’re traveling to a popular destination, they usually have local tourism offices that you can turn to for assistance. It’s the local government’s way to show hospitality in order to encourage tourists to come visit. If you need booking for last minute hotels for your travel, try checking those in charge of local tours. They could guide you in finding a nice, safe place to stay for the duration of your trip.

An advantage here is that not many people do this often – they prefer the more beaten path of calling hotels, airlines and travel agencies. And since you’ll be talking with the tourism office, you might want to get a few tips on finding the best hotels where you could experience the local flavors and offerings of your destination.

Check offers from low cost airlines.
Many low cost airlines have affiliated hotels. These range from 4 to 5 star hotels to more simple accommodations courtesy of inns and hostels. You might want to check their websites for availability in case you’re traveling any time soon. Many of these affiliated hotels can accept last minute bookings. An advantage: if you use the low cost airline for travel, you get all the information you need including hotel bookings from only one website.

Check out package tours.
Sometimes, last minute hotel booking problems can be solved by simply checking out bundled tours. Quite a few airlines, like major carriers, may offer package tours that can include the cost of car rentals too other than the hotel accommodations charge.

If you book a flight with any of these airlines, you could take advantage of their offers, get an airplane ticket, book a last minute hotel room and even have a car pick you up from and to the airport.

Easy Steps Towards Preparing For A Trip Feb 23

When planning to take a trip, by way of airplane, there are a number of different factors that you should consider. One of those factors is whether you are suffering from a disability or not. You need to be prepared if you are traveling with a person who has some disability, even though you do not have it yourself.  This preparation does not just include packing your bags for your trip, but it is also includes familiarizing yourself with air travel rules. Although most of the rules are the same, you will find that some rules differ for those who have a medical condition or a disability.

The first step in preparing for a trip with someone who is disabled, whether that person be yourself or another traveler, is to alert the airline.  When making your reservation, you may want to inform the airline staff of any disability or medical condition that you may have. This may not be necessary, but it can still turn out to be a good idea, especially if you are going to travel with medical equipment.  Extra accommodations will need to be made for those who are traveling, past airport security checkpoints, with wheelchairs or mobility scooters.  Learning what you will need to do with these items, ahead of time, is a great way to make your travel plans run as smoothly as possible.

It is also a good idea to familiarize yourself with the airport screening process.  All individuals will need to go through medical detectors. Traveling with medical equipment which is not allowed can cause extra screening. This screening should only take a few minutes, but it will be done by a trained professional who will show compassion when dealing with those with a disability.

Unlike most other air travelers, who at this time are required to remove their shoes, those with a disability can leave their shoes on if they choose to do so.  However, it is important to note that you may be subject to additional screening.  To prevent this additional screening from occurring, you are advised to remove your shoes, if at all possible. In the event that you are unable to, it will not be a big ordeal. In fact, the additional screening often requires a quick swipe of a metal detector wand.

In addition to those with a disability, most airports have made special arrangements and exceptions for those who have a medical condition, especially one that requires medication at a specific time.  You are allowed to keep your medication with you, in your carryon luggage, but you are advised to keep the dosages in small amounts.  Due to the current ban on liquids, you are advised to have the proper medical identification. This means that you should keep your medication in the original package, especially if your name is on it.  To be allowed through to the next checkpoint, your name will have to match the name of the prescription bottle. If it does not, there is a chance that you will have your medication confiscated.

By keeping the above mentioned points in mind you or your traveling partners, who may have a medical condition or a disability, should easily be able to make it to your intended destination. In the event that you are unsure about a particular screening procedure or if you have any other questions, you are advised to contact the airline in which you will be flying on or the airport that you will be leaving from, before your arrive there. Planning ahead is the best way to make your next flight a memorable and hassle-free experience.
