Tour Alaska May 13

There are literally hundreds of Alaskan tours to choose from! Whether you’re bringing young children to show them wildlife, nature and a part of history, or taking a romantic and adventurous honeymoon adventure, there is something in Alaska for you. When most people think of cruises, the Bahamas or Hawaii comes to mind, but you can find fantastic seven-night expeditions in peak summer months for as low as $699 (primarily because most people head to Europe during the warmer months). Be sure to save enough money for your adventure to the 49th Us state, as there is no limit to what you can do on this once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Imagine being a resident of Alaska in a town of 900 and watching thousands of passengers unloading off six massive cruise lines. Back in the 1800s, the Gold Rush brought a similar bombardment of settlers to what was a pristine swatch of land containing mountains, frozen volcanoes, forests and glaciers. If you love history, then an Alaskan adventure is a “must.” Not only will you see leftover historic mines, but you can also learn about the native Alaskan people, who bared the elements and lived off whales and moose.

In Juneau, a classic Alaskan tour is the “Four Glaciers By Helicopter & Dog Sled Adventure.” On this once-in-a-lifetime expedition, you’ll soar over four real glaciers, which are the Taku, the Hole-in-the-Wall, Dead Branch and East Twin, while catching a bird’s eye view of moose, goats, bears and caribou. Then you will land on Norris Glacier where you’ll meet up with your Alaskan malamute and Alaskan husky dogsled team. Your guide will describe the 1,000-mile Iditarod Race that traverses from Anchorage to Nome. Your trip will include some hiking through crevasses and navigating streams for two hours of ethereal zen. This journey is for the fearless, the cold-insensitive, the adventurous and the athletic.

Do you love the water but find the Alaskan cruise thing too far removed? Hoping for a relaxing and unique wildlife-viewing experience? In Haines, Alaska, you might find the “Wildlife River Adventure” more your speed. First, you’ll take a bus through this quaint one-horse town, then you’ll visit the world-renowned Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. You’ll jet-boat through the narrow glacial channels of the Chilkat River, delving deep into the Alaska wilderness with eagle-nested trees and the playful sea otter’s mud-and-snow-hut dens. The expedition finishes up with hot cocoa around a campfire or inside the heated pavilion.

The town of Sitka is well-known for its Russian heritage and pride. When you visit this Alaskan town, you may want to take the “Historic Russian America, Raptor Center & Russian Dancers” tour. The Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center is an amazing sight to behold, with many birds of prey (including bald eagles) circling overhead and swooping by. You’ll see America’s first Russian Orthodox cathedral, see where the 1804 Battle of Alaska was bought and where the first Alaskan flag was flown in 1867. The Russian Folk Dance troupe will also entertain visitors of all ages. Whether visiting for the nature, the heritage, the fishing or the adventure…this is the place you won’t soon forget.

As one of the later states to join the union, Alaska is a wealthy land of natural beauty, profitable oil and a plethora of wildlife. After summer solstice on June 21st, the days are long, with Ketchikan, Anchorage, Fairbanks and Barrow receiving 19.5 - 24 hours of sunlight per day. Summer temperatures are around 60 - 70 on the Inland Passage, where most cruise ships stay. You can find a seven-night Alaskan cruise for as low as $699, so what are you waiting for?

While the media is full of doom and gloom over the finance crisis it does provide an opportunity for those still earning good money to experience luxury travel at a knock down price. As the rest of the world starts cutting back, it is now possible to book luxury holiday accommodation in some traditionally hard to get locations. This year, as crowds thin, it is the perfect time to take the opulent vacation you’ve been dreaming off. Low on ideas? Below are five well known luxury destinations around the world:

Australia’s Gold Coast:

More than 10 million people visit the Gold Coast every year, and 90% of them are domestic tourists. The beaches are part of a surfer’s paradise that stretches down the coast, and the high rise luxury hotels don’t detract from the tropical surroundings. Why let the locals to be the only ones to enjoy all this? Try your hand at surfing, pamper yourself silly on the favorable exchange rate, and relax into the famous Aussie hospitality with stylish Gold Coast holiday apartments such as Q1 holiday apartments.

Turkey’s Turquoise Coast:

Where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean Sea, you’ll find the Turquoise Coast. Most people know it as the Turkish Riviera, and they can’t believe that the all-inclusive resorts on the Turkish coast are really less than $100 a night. With the good exchange rates at the moment and close to year long season you can pick up great rates for beachfront accommodation. And the spas . . .you must pamper yourself with a Turkish bath trip after parasailing and snorkeling all day!

Fortaleza in Brazil:

Fortaleza, on the North Coast of Brazil, has been a fiercely guarded local luxury destination for years. Furnished condos are the place to stay, and the best are right on the beach. Surfing, sunbathing, deep sea fishing and water sports are all waiting. Flights via LAN are finally going direct from Miami starting this year so you don’t have to make the annoying transfer in Rio. Last year saw the end of a huge amount of refurbishments which means now is a perfect time to visit.

Hainan Island, China:

Known as the Hawaii of China, the Miss Universe contest is held here at the posh Sanya Resort. Private beaches, clear water, and stunningly delicious fresh seafood are just a few of the luxuries to be had here. Traditional Eastern reflexology and indulgent 4-hands massages make it easy to sink into the hammocks next to the reflecting pools in Hainan—just be mindful that you don’t stay forever!

Mayan Riviera, Mexico

Avoid the madness of the spring breakers in Apapulco and head to the Yucatan peninsula. You’ll find all the trimmings you might expect for luxury five start resorts such as stunning gardens, pools and beaches with watersports. Tulum, Akumal, and Playa del Carmen are all home to fine hotels, while the cruise ships put in at Cancun and Cozumel. Try and time your trip to avoid the bulk of the large tour boats and you’ll experience an unrushed visit with more dolphin time.

The Right Steps in finding a good Wedding Photographer May 13

No doubt a wedding will be one of the most important moments that will happen in a person’s life. Countless hours go into wedding planning. All of the tasks that go into wedding planning can be time consuming, stressful and very frustrating at times. That’s why it is critical that you do your homework when finding the right people for all the jobs.  One of the most important jobs is that of the photographer. From my experience as a San Diego wedding photographer I’ll show you it can be a few simple steps away.

Trying to find a wedding photographer is huge responsibility and job. There are a few important factors to think about when you make this important decision. The photos that you take away from your wedding are going to be the most memorable keepsakes that you have. The photos will be on your walls for the rest of yourlife. One of the important factors when trying to find a photographer is price. Most photographers do charge a price for a specific amount of time for the wedding. It is important to know what will be included with that price up front
price. When it comes to finding a wedding photographer, the biggest upside to pricing is there is a lot of competition. Don’t forget, a lot of photographers will negotiate their price to fit what you need.

Another factor to consider when choosing is how much experience a person has. Is this their first wedding or their hundredth? Their price might be an indication of how many years they have been in business as well. Just because someone is experienced, doesn’t always translate into being a better photographer. Sometimes the photographers that are just starting their careers and are trying to build a name will turn out to be excellent. The advantage of a person like that and going with them is you know they are going to give it their best. When you are trying to find a wedding photgrapher, you will find photographers of different levels of experience. When you do an interview of prospective photographers, it will give you a sense of what it will be like when you work with them.

A final thing to consider when making this decision is what type of personality the photographer has. Are they going to call all the shots and make all of the poses? Or will they allow the bride and groom to make some decisions? The other thing to think about is do you want to be the one to make the decisions on the photos. The bride and grooom will have enough worries the day of the wedding. Take all of these things into account when considering which photographer to choose. If you do, you are going to have a lot of wonderful pictures to cherish for the rest of your lives.  Take it from me, your experienced San Diego photographer.

The island has been the location for many film shoots including the Jurassic Park series, some of the Indiana Jones films and many others going all the way back to the 1930s.

The Friendly Island is the moniker that explains Molokai today. This island is less developed than the others, thus it remains a wonderful showcase of what Hawaiian life is. They offer mule rides to take you to the north side of the island.  The leper colony was once at this site that is now a historical park.  The all day ride wanders through the island and down 1,700 feet to the former settlement. Throughout the ride you will be traversing on switchbacks and enjoying the pristine wilderness of Hawaii. Molokai is striving to restore the ancient ways with the Hawaiian fishponds. They were once used as a clever use of aquaculture.

Once you arrive in the Hawaiian Islands there are several sources of travel between the islands. There are airports that have hopper flights or you can use a water approach. You can find ferries that travel between the islands as a reasonable cost or you can board one hundred foot yachts that will deliver you to different islands in luxury.  The Molokai Princess is one such ship that runs from Maui to Molokai.

Off the beaten track May 13

Although France may be more closely associated with wine in most people’s minds, cider has been produced in the country for hundreds to years. Tour the Brittany cider route, taking in some of France’s most wonderful countryside.

Brittany is rated as one of the most pleasant French regions. It makes a fantastic destination for a leisurely holiday.

A break in Brittany must include touring the Cider route, through some of the famed cider plantations. You will be able to sample many different ciders during the tour.

Cider has been brewed in Brittany for generations, and each province cultivates a particular type of apple - meaning there are many kinds of cider to sample.

What’s more, travelling to Brittany couldn’t be more straightforward. cross channel ferries from Ireland and the UK regularly dock in Roscoff. Is there a better way to start your vacation than walking along the wonderful shoreline in Roscoff, or stopping off at the town’s botanic gardens?

Once you arrive in Roscoff you can go straight onto the cider route. Curving through Brittany, it gives you a great chance to survey the traditional procedures used in producing each location’s speciality cider.

The Cider Museum shows how cider production has flourished over the generations, and how life in Brittany is connected to this deliciously refreshing drink.

If life in Bordeaux is defined by wine, Brittany’s unique character is summed up in its wide range of ciders.

Cider is served in ceramic mugs. These idiosyncratic cups , similar to large tea cups, really add to the character of your cider.

Brittany cider goes with galettes - thin pancakes that can be sweet or savoury - or fish. Its long shoreline means that Brittany is famed for an sumptuious range of fish, mussels and oysters.

Brittany is a wonderful place to start a tour of France if you are planning a road trip. Just remember, that means you won’t be able to enjoy the produce on the cider route.

Alaska Land Tours: Alaska Cruise Tours 2010, Alaska Land Tour May 13

Looking into Alaskan cruises this summer? Despite the growing number of people interested in taking an Alaskan vacation, the cruising patterns have remained relatively unchanged. The most traditional Alaskan cruise is an “Inside Passage” route that takes passengers from Vancouver to southeast Alaska and back in seven nights and eight days, with port calls in two to four towns, which might include Ketchikan, Wrangell, Petersburg, Sitka, Juneau, Haines and Skagway, or Glacier Bay National Park. The second type of cruise is the seven-night, one-way “Gulf and Glaciers” route that leaves from Seward or Whittier and tours the inside passage sights, with the addition of Prince William Sound. Thirdly, some cruises are just one-way, seven-night trips between Alaskan towns, such as Juneau and Sitka. Lastly, an expedition voyage can include Aleutian island, sub-Arctic ports and Russian territory as well.

Thousands of miners left Seattle to pain for gold and fortune in Alaska during the 1890s. Today, more than 835,000 passengers are expected to pass through Seattle on their way to Alaska on Alaskan cruises. Most come for the quiet, untainted scenery or the rare wildlife sightings. Some visit to learn about the American Eskimo, to take an Alaskan husky dogsled excursion or to feast on Alaskan king crab. With so many quaint port towns and over fifteen cruise lines heading to the glacial waters this season, why not make Alaska your next vacation destination?

There are, of course, many other activities that draw people to Alaskan cruises. Some say “Why Alaska? Wouldn’t you rather go somewhere warm like the Bahamas or Hawaii?” For starters, you can’t see glaciers somewhere warm. Sure, they’re cold — but for people who live near the mountains already, nothing compares to mountains of ice that have existed since pre-human times. If Al Gore’s predictions are accurate, these behemoth ice caps may one day disappear. Also, where else can you pan for gold, catch a 4.5-pound salmon, traverse by dogsled or purchase traditional Huna native artwork?

New in 2008, Holland America is offering more authentic Alaskan cruises, with the addition of expert travel guides on all Glacier Bay-bound ships. The guides will provide native Alaskan narration and recant some of their personal experiences of “local culture, history, art and flora and fauna.” There will be unique presentations throughout the week, educating passengers on Alaska’s wildlife, the gold rush, volcanoes, glaciers, early explorers and the native Huna people. National Wildlife Preserve guides will take visitors through the parks, offering up their expertise at no additional charge, for a more meaningful and enlightening experience.

When considering Alaskan cruises, you’ll have to decide which port stops are most important to you. Seattle and Vancouver are popular family-friendly port stops you won’t want to miss. In Ketchikan, you will see the Saxman Native Village and The Great Lumberjack Show, as well as hike the Deer Mountain trail. In Juneau, you can board the Mount Roberts tramway, go whale watching and see the Mendenhall Glacier. Sitka has the New Archangel Dancers, the Alaska Raptor Center and scenic trails around Blue Mountain Lake. You won’t want to miss Skagway’s “White Pass & Yukon Railroad” through gold rush country or the Klondike Gold Rush Historic Park.

Alaskan cruises are a great way to get around the 49th state. Cruising.org can point you in the right direction for a cruise in Alaska. Or try the Online Vacation Center at (800) 329-9002, which offers sharp discounts; as low as $699 for a seven-night excursion aboard premium cruise lines like Holland America. To board the ship, you may need to fly to Seattle or Vancouver, although flights are less expensive than flying directly to Anchorage, Alaska.
