Attractions of Cheyenne Nov 14

Cheyenne is Wyoming’s capital and is called “Magic City of the Plains.” Cheyenne offers a wide range of attractions. Called “The Daddy of Them All” the Cheyenne Frontier Days festival is a real western rodeo.This annual celebration attracts many visitors from all over the country.

Frontier Days first began in 1897 as a horse show and also showed old west exhibits. Since its beginnings it is now known as one of the world’s most famous rodeos. This is a 10 day celebration that happens in July of each year. You can check out exciting rodeo events and even performances by Country music icons.

This now famous and biggest Western celebration was started by two local businessmen in 1897. They thought it would be fun and also profitable to put on a western style show. Over 2500 volunteers help put on this huge festival. There are parades, chili cook-off’s, exhibits, Indian Villages, concerts and much more.

There are many nearby ski resorts that are located in the Colorado Rockies. Another favorite Cheyenne attraction is the old west reenactment series about how the west was in frontier days. There are gunfights, western skits and Wild West activities that can be seen daily in the Old Town Square in downtown Cheyenne.

One of the city’s popular tours is good for people who want to get a feel for the town and the history of the old west. You can take a narrated tour on the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley. There are also seasonal tours available such as the Ghost Tour in October and there is the Christmas Lights Tour in December.

You can find fresh local produce and goods every Saturday in August and October at the Cheyenne Farmers market. The Nelson Museum of the West has a collection of stories and old west memorabilia. Just a few miles outside of town is the Terry Bison Ranch which offers horseback rides, wagon tours and prime rib dinners.

After you have explored all there is to see in Cheyenne you are within driving distance of Yellowstone National Park. It was first established in 1872 as a federally protected park and the park spans three states, Wyoming, Idaho and Montana. The animals at Yellowstone roam free - bears, elk, bison, and many birds. This is an incredible place to visit to enjoy the natural beauty and to enjoy the wildlife at its best.

Cheyenne is a wonderful and historic city that makes you feel like you step back into time and are in the middle of the Old Wild West. There are many things to do for people of all ages. It is centrally located so when traveling here you are within driving distance of Denver and Yellowstone National Park. There is something to do no matter what time of the year you decide to visit.
