Most of the top poker pros such as Ultimate Bet player Phil Hellmuth and Full Tilt Poker pro Phil Ivey are in Las Vegas competing in the WSOP. However PokerStars are trying hard to try to ensure that players have other options for winning big with both their UK and Ireland Poker Tour.
The most recent stop on the UKIPT was at Killarney where 253 players competed in the Main Event poker tournament for thousands of Euros. Amongst the well known players in the tourney were PokerStars resident online poker pro Julian Thew, the UKIPT Nottingham champion Andrew Couldridge and finally Giles Augustus the UKIPT Coventry champion.
Amazingly none of the internet poker pros managed to make it to the final poker table as it was mostly amateurs who made their way deep into the competition. Aonghus Farrell and Femi Fakinle battled out the final poker hands. Fakinle came into heads-up play with the lead, but Farrell managed to steal the lead at one point. However, the lead was short-lived as Fakinle battled back to take control of the tournament.
The final hand came when Fakinle (Q-J) put all his poker chips in and Farrell (K-6) called. Fakinle not only hit a two-pair and earned himself 63,000 Euros, but more importantly a place in the EPT London Main Event, which kicks off on 29th September.
After Fakinle turned over his winning poker cards he said that he was most excited about the fact he’d won a seat to EPT London. This now means he is in with a chance of playing against some of the finest players in the world.
While Fakinle won’t be earning any rakeback like he would in online poker, there is still plenty of reason to get excited about the EPT London tournament. During the 2009 Main Event a new casino poker record was recorded for a UK poker tourney with an amazing 730 players involved and with Aaron Gustavson winning an amazing £850,000.
If you don’t manage to book yourself a place in the London tournament, why not play PKR Poker or Full Tilt Poker from your very own living room?
